Together, we can meet one of the greatest unmet needs in the state: pediatric mental health care.
Mental health disorders are among the most urgent and under-addressed challenges facing Oklahoma's children. One in five children nationwide struggle with a significant mental health disorder, and suicide is the second leading cause of death among children ages 10-24 in Oklahoma. Our state's children are bearing the weight of one of the most pressing public health issues of our time.
OU Health is answering this crisis, building something unprecedented in our state: the Oklahoma Children's OU Health Behavioral Health Center.
The Behavioral Health Center will be a comprehensive, state-of-the-art facility delivering research-driven, compassionate mental healthcare to children and adolescents ages 5-17 from across Oklahoma. This center will serve all of Oklahoma’s children, regardless of their medical complexity, cognitive ability, diagnosis, zip code or financial resources.
The new facility will feature:
• More than 172,000 square feet of purpose-built clinical space
• 72 inpatient beds
• A gymnasium, family lobby, outdoor activity areas, meditation space and a family resource center
• A calming design that promotes healing and reduces stress and stigma through natural light, soothing colors and access to nature
• Robust outpatient services, including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
• A family-centered care model, including accommodations for parents or guardians to remain with their child when clinically appropriate
